Juneteenth (June 19th) commemorates the effective end to the enslavement of African-Americans in Texas in 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. First recognized as a federal holiday in 2021, celebrations are happening in June all over the Bay Area. One way to celebrate is by supporting black-owned businesses, and the Do The Bay directory of black-owned businesses is a great resource.

Some of these businesses are just a few blocks from Temescal Works, including Burlap Coffee, Abesha Ethiopian Cuisine, and Asmara Restaurant.

Temescal Works will remain staffed on Monday, June 20 to support those who need to work that day. If you’re coming into TW, consider having coffee or lunch at one of these local businesses!
