Women's Alliance for Knowledge Exchange (WAKE)

Member Spotlight Q&A: Trish Tierney and Emily Berlin

Join us in the sofa area for an illuminating Q&A with the Executive Director and Director of Strategic Partnerships of Women’s Alliance for Knowledge Exchange (WAKE), a nonprofit working both locally and globally to uplift women social entrepreneurs. WAKE drives social impact through technology and collaboration, matching volunteer Advisors from the tech industry with social entrepreneurs who are driving change in their communities. In 2025, WAKE will undertake impact projects in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and Vilnius, Lithuania, supporting Ukrainian women entrepreneurs as they rebuild their businesses in their new community.

Art Opening: Alex Chand

Join us to celebrate All the Colors of Nature, an exhibition by Alex Chand, a Bay Area artist whose landscape paintings transcend the traditional boundaries of representation, inviting viewers to engage with the emotional and sensory essence of nature rather than its literal forms. Born in 1982 in Worcester, Massachusetts, Alex’s artistic journey began when he first encountered Bob Ross’s “The Joy of Painting” series as a child.

Member Spotlight Q&A: Sunil Rajaraman

Sunil is the Founder of Hamlet, a company that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to make public information easier to understand. Prior to Hamlet, Sunil co-founded Scripted.com, a marketplace for businesses to hire freelance writers. Sunil also owned and operated The Bold Italic, a local San Francisco publication, which he sold to Medium in 2019. Sunil’s writing has appeared in Forbes, Fortune, The Information Techcrunch and others. He once ran one of the top 200 podcasts in the US.

Endorsement Event: East Bay Animal PAC 2024

The East Bay Animal PAC, a nonprofit organization promoting animal-friendly candidates and legislation, will host its 2024 Endorsement Meeting at Temescal Works on September 25. Join the PAC to connect with fellow animal advocates, learn about local candidates, and help decide who deserves our support in the upcoming election. Light plant-based refreshments will be served.

All are welcome to attend, but only members of the PAC are allowed to vote.

Catherine Hicks is an accomplished artist and animator with a passion for both technology and traditional crafts. A recent addition to Temescal Works, Catherine brings 15 years of experience from Pixar Animation Studios. She also contributed her creative talents as a designer for Sesame Workshop. Catherine is an avid puppet designer and fabricator. Join her for an exploration of puppet fabrication, puppeteering, and their connections to animation, and experience hands-on demonstrations with professional-grade puppets.
